In 2014 Barbara was elected as the MP for Taranaki-King Country, and in 2017 elected the Junior Whip for the National Caucus.
Barbara is the National Party Spokesperson for Rural Communities and Biosecurity. Barbara splits her time between her electorate and Wellington, and is extremely driven in her responsibilities as an electorate MP.
With a lengthy career of dairy farming behind her, focused succession planning has created the opportunity for Barbara to transition from full time farming, to follow her passion for the Agribusiness industry into the roles of governance, coaching and leadership.
She was named the 2012 Dairy Woman of the Year and has been a member of the Boards of DairyNZ, Primary ITO Board, Taratahi, Dairy Women’s Network, and NZ Young Farmers. Barbara has completed an Institute for Strategic Leadership MBA and is a past scholarship recipient of the Food & Agribusiness Market Experience (FAME). In 2014 she became a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
Barbara is a strategic thinker, enjoys a challenge, and participates and guides others to fulfil their aspirations. She is highly regarded in the agricultural industry and is seeking more opportunities to collaborate with other industries to promote regional growth.
